HypnoBirthing

AN OVERVIEW OF HYPNOBIRTHING®
HypnoBirthing® teaches women and their birth companions how to stay deeply relaxed and in control of their birth, reducing the need for pain relief and intervention, making birth a positive empowering experience. Using stress management and an array of techniques, HypnoBirthing® teaches couples that in the absence of fear and tension, severe discomfort does not have to be a natural accompaniment to the birthing process.

The focus of HypnoBirthing® is on teaching women and their partners some simple but specialised relaxation and breathing techniques along with lots of practical, useful birthing information. These easy- to- learn techniques make the whole birth easier, calmer and more comfortable. Women also learn how to free themselves of harmful emotions that lead to pain-causing fear and unyielding muscles.

HYPNOSIS & HOW IT HELPS IN BIRTH
The phenomenon of hypnosis is firstly, and most importantly, a natural state of mind, which means that virtually every person has the natural capacity for response to hypnosis. There is nothing unnatural or supernatural about it. Hypnosis is simply a natural state of physical, mental and emotional relaxation (similar to daydreaming), along with a heightened state of awareness.
During hypnosis, pregnant women are taught to breathe in rhythm with their contractions, encouraging deep physical and mental relaxation which reduces the ‘fear tension and pain’ syndrome. Visual imagery is included to help mum to bond with her baby during pregnancy and also to desensitize the fear of labour and birth. Self- hypnosis helps stimulate the body’s own natural painkillers to ease discomfort and gives the expectant mum confidence in her ability to remain in control and give birth without fear.
